FAQ

Our curriculum platform is web-based so high speed internet is needed. Chromebooks work best with the curriculum requirements but MacBooks and PC devices that have updated software work as well. Work cannot be completed on phones or tablets.

Students in grades 9-12 are required to download the Proctorio Secure Browser App on personal devices.

The state of Arizona requires varying hours depending on a student's grade level. Young online students in grades 4-5 should spend 25 hours per week, and students in grades 7-12 should spend 25-30 hours per week to maintain full-time status. If you are taking only one course, the requirement is 400 minutes per week. In addition to "attending" school the required length of time each week, students will also need to complete weekly goals and turn in assignments that are due each week to maintain academic progress. 

Parents will receive frequent emails and phone calls if their student is not meeting the attendance requirements. If no attendance is submitted for an extended length of time, the student can be withdrawn from school due to "non-attendance".

Students in grades 4-5 will be assigned to one teacher that will facilitate all four courses. The teacher, student and Learning Coach (family member) will work together as the student works through the courses. The student will not be required to attend live sessions with the teacher, but the teacher will have an open classroom (online) for the student to access during the work schedule. Students can also schedule private, individual meetings with the teacher up to two times a week.

Students in grades 7-12 will be in asynchronous, student-led classes with each class having a teacher. There are no live meetings or required check-ins for the students. Teachers will be available for virtual meetings for tutoring as well as grading work, providing feedback, and monitoring progress. 

All students must participate in state and district assessments. Participation in these exams is a condition of enrollment and students who do not participate may be subject to withdrawal from our school. (A.R.S. §15-808)

These assessments provide parents and teachers with valuable information about a student's learning and give us the opportunity to address learning gaps or where to guide a student in their learning journey.

State assessments MUST be taken on one of our approved campus testing sites. District assessments may be taken from home and will be monitored through our district software.

Parents will be sent weekly emails with their students' grades and class completion/progression through the Imagine/Edgenuity family portal. Additionally, parents can have their student log in and show the parent the student dashboard. This is the most accurate, up-to-date data as it changes every time a student completes an assignment or assessment. Grades are updated weekly (on Mondays) in ParentVue but if the student works throughout the week, the grade in ParentVue will not reflect that work until the following week. 

After families complete the orientation slidedeck and submit the student/parent contract, WVA Admin will meet with students to go through their transcript and create an academic plan. During this process, students can choose electives based on what is available. After this meeting, courses will be assigned to the student through the Imagine/Edgenuity Platforms and in ParentVue so parents know what courses their student will be taking.

For grades 9-12, at the end of each 9-week block, students will be required to take and pass a final exam with a 60% or higher. These finals are taken in-person at one of the WVA labs. For detailed information regarding finals, please refer to our handbook (final exam policy).
