Curriculum Used and Courses Offered

At Wickenburg Virtual Academy, we are committed to providing students with a high-quality online education that combines academic excellence with the flexibility families need. Through our partnership with Imagine Learning, students have access to a rigorous, engaging curriculum designed to support a variety of learning styles and goals.

Our courses are taught by highly qualified teachers who deliver instruction through interactive video lessons and a variety of hands-on learning activities. Because the curriculum is available online 24/7, students can access their coursework whenever it best fits their schedule, giving them the freedom to learn while staying on track toward their educational goals.

Imagine Learning follows the Wickenburg Unfiied School District work calendar and does NOT assign new work in the courses on weekends and schoolbreaks/holidays; however, because courses are asynchronous, students can work on classes during those days. This provides the student with an opportunity to get caught up on work if they have fallen behind or work ahead in order to finish a class early.

Students in grades 4-8 take the four core content-area courses:

  • Language Arts
  • math
  • science
  • social studies

For grades 4-5, students complete the daily lessons online as well as construct projects, complete labs, submit handwritten assignments, create things with materials found around the house, record themselves and submit the recordings, and take regular assessments in the form of quizzes/tests.

Students in these grades must take grade-level classes and submit grade-level work. Because we use Imaging Learning courses, modifications/changes cannot be made to the curriculum, course content, or the 18-week pacing of the course. These are NOT open-enrollment courses, so students MUST start classes within the enrollment window at the beginning of each semester. 

Students in grades 9-12 must pass the courses required to meet the Arizona Department of Education graduation requirements. This includes:

  • 4 years of English
  • 4 years of math (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II, and a fourth year of math that meets the board of regency requirements)
  • 3 lab sciences
  • World History
  • United States History
  • Government
  • Economics
  • 1 credit of Fine Arts or CTE
  • 7 credits of electives (limited to what is offered by our curriculum provider)

Students also have the opportunity to take Honors courses through Imagine Learning and can also enroll in dual enrollment courses through a community college or university for a fee. 

For grades 9-12, students complete daily lessons and assignments online. ALL core courses require students to take notes and submit them before each unit test. This provides evidence that the student has worked through lessons before being assessed on the materials. Some courses will have outside assignments, such as science labs, essays, research projects, novel readings, and slideshow presentations. Course assessments are most often in the form of a quiz and are taken after each lesson. A test finalizes the unit, with cumulative exams/final tests rounding out the assessments. For high school courses, the final exams must be proctored and passed with a 60% or higher for the student to receive credit for the course (school policy).
